Is there any such thing? Let's investigate—for good or ill. A blog about fiction and literature, philosophy and theology, politics and law, science and culture, the environment and economics, and ethics and language, and any thing else that strikes our fancy. (Apologies to Bertrand Russell)
It was 10 mph on other streets. See Ruskin Street, e.g. Funny how we all found that damned curious. As the scroll-over sez: Reinforces the authoritarian meme of the place. Frankly, it felt oppressive there. Down to the lawns, house paint, mailboxes, even the fonts on the required blue-on-blue signage on each house's picket fence identifying the owners and their primary residence. There were lots of 'security' types strolling around Seaside, pseudo-Zimmermans, perhaps, in khaki shorts and identical blue polo shirts. Discreet walkie-talkies, etc. Some of the teens (one of whom was black) we took down had a bit of a kerfuffle with one of them. There was next to no diversity in the town. Florida, seriously, is a scary place. Their state parks, though, where most of the pics in the next post come from, are amazing.
I've never seen a 17 mph speed limit sign until now.
ReplyDeleteI can die a happy man...thanks Jim H.

I wonder how much was spent on the study to show that there are 37% fewer accidents at 17 instead of 16 or 18 mph.
